Recognize, Respond, Rephrase: Empowering Youths to Dismantle Ableism

In this training participants will:
  • Learn to define ableism and the different ways it can occur
  • Explain whom ableism affects, what the effects can be, and learn strategies to cope with ableist comments they may receive or witness
  • Understand why ableist comments are problematic, learn alternative language and phrases that are more acceptable among members of the disability community, and be champions of educating others in their lives on the usage of proper terms
  • Be able to implement shared resources for further learning and to begin building a network of allies to disrupt ableism
