INTRODUCTIONS

Purpose: Learn more about one another.

Check off the item after it is discussed.

Tutor(s) share their name, what college they attend, how long they have been with iEducate, their major and schedule (days and times they are scheduled to work).

Ask: What is your name? What college(s) did you attend? Have you ever had an iEducate tutor before?

SCHOOL AND CLASSROOM CULTURE

Purpose: Learn about school/classroom culture, policies, and practices.

Ask: Does the school have a school-wide positive behavior or classroom management program or focus? (e.g. PBIS, TEACH etc.) If so, what is that program?

Ask: What are the most important rules and procedures for your class that I can help reinforce?

Ask: What are some of the positive behavior reinforcement strategies that I can help reinforce?

Ask: Do you have any guidance you’d like to share regarding how to build positive relationships and rapport with students?

Ask: Do you have any guidance related to appropriate ways of preventing and/or responding to behavior concerns? (e.g. de-escalation strategies etc.)

Ask: What other procedures or routines do you use that would it be good for me to know about? (e.g. where to turn in papers, how to line up, procedures for borrowing supplies, etc.)

SCHOOL AND CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION

Purpose: Learn about school/classroom academic goals, clarify roles and responsibilities, meeting cadence/times and high-leverage instructional practices.

Ask: Does the school have school-wide academic goals for this school year? If so, what are they?

Ask: Do you have any classroom-specific academic goals for this school year? If so, what are they?

Ask: What are some ways I can reinforce school-wide or classroom academic goals with my prioritized students?

Ask: Do you have any high leverage instructional strategies you’d like me to learn and implement? (e.g. scaffolding strategies, engagement strategies etc.) If so, what are they?

Ask: Which 1-4 students would you like me to work with during whole-group core/Tier 1 instruction?

Ask: Does the school’s master schedule include a common planning period for teachers to collaborate (e.g. grade level planning periods, PLCs etc.) If so, will I be attending that common planning period? If not, when is a good time for you and I to check-in on an ongoing basis?

Ask: If not during a common planning period, when will my individual planning period for lesson internalization be?

Ask: What curriculum will I use for the grade and subject areas I’ll be supporting? How will I get access to that curriculum and which lessons will be covered?

Ask: What assessments are used during the school year to monitor students’ progress?

FINAL THOUGHTS

Ask: What is the school’s Safety Plan and what would I do in an emergency?

Ask: During Teacher Work Days/Testing, would you like to provide me with tasks or have me work autonomously?
