Indiana Charter School Fellowship - Full Application

The Full Application serves as an opportunity for applicants to provide more in-depth responses around an one's vision and motivation for their school model. Applicants will be asked to focus on their philosophy of leadership, strategic thinking, and all instructional components needed to build an excellent school.

Please take time to describe your experiences for our selection committee. Ensure that you are answering all the questions thoroughly and succinctly. All essays have a maximum word amount of 750 words.

Section 2.1: Leadership Experience

A. Think about the current community you serve. Providing specific examples, describe how you have engaged authentically with your current community to advance an objective. How will these experiences translate as you think about launching a new school in the city you aspire to serve?

B. How have your previous experiences prepared you for starting a new school? Where have you shown entrepreneurship in your leadership journey?

C. What supports will you provide to staff to ensure all students are receiving what they need to achieve academically? How important is student proficiency to you and your model?

D. The Indiana Charter School Fellowship will provide access to resources and support. Please explain how you will use the Indiana Charter School Fellowship to further develop and expand/replicate/launch your school. Be sure to address the following questions in your answer: what areas of strength will you bring with you to the Fellowship? What are your greatest areas for growth, and how will you prioritize your development? What do you anticipate as your greatest challenges to replication/expansion or launching a new school?

B. Describe in detail your school's educational model. Be sure to address the following in your school overview: What is the problem in education that your school solves? Why is your expansion/replication or new school necessary in Indiana? What are the non-negotiable components of your school’s education model? What experience(s) and/or research led you to the development of your school design?

C. What does a typical day look like for a student in your school? Where will students be challenged and where will students experience their greatest joy?

D. Describe what academic rigor and high expectations look like to you as a school leader. How do you align your team to achieve this vision?

E. Please describe your staff professional development plan with intended outcomes as it relates to instruction and rigor. How will you use data to track student performance and hold teachers accountable?

F. Describe your strategy to recruit and retain your staff, including your teachers. How will you invest them in your school model through the recruiting process?

G. Describe your philosophy for an observation, feedback, and support cycle for teachers.

H. Please upload your observation and feedback framework with notes from actual observations. This can be uploaded in a video, ppt, or pdf format below in the extra file upload section.

I. Describe your long-term goals in Indiana: how does your proposed model enhance the current landscape? Do you have plans to replicate your model into additional schools? If so, provide a projection of that timeline.
