Art Contest Rules

Competition Rules

  1. Original Artwork Only – All submissions must be original and created by the artist. AI-generated art is strictly prohibited.
  2. Accepted Mediums – Paintings, drawings, digital art (non-AI), photography, mixed media, and sculpture are accepted. No video or performance art.
  3. Submission Format – Digital images of artwork (JPEG, PNG, or PDF) must be submitted. Sculptures require multiple angles. High resolution is recommended.
  4. Theme Requirement – Artwork should relay some aspect of the cancer experience as a young person. 
  5. One Entry Per Person – Each participant may enter no more than one submission.
  6. No Hate Speech or Inappropriate Content – Submissions must not contain offensive, discriminatory, or graphic imagery.
  7. Submission Deadline – All entries must be received by Sunday, April 27th, 2025. Late submissions will not be accepted.
  8. Judging Criteria – Creativity, originality, emotional impact, and connection to the theme will be considered.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Artist Requirement – In an effort to be inclusive of all international definitions for Adolescent & Young Adult (AYA), this competition is open to individuals currently aged 12-39 of all countries. Artists must be: 
    • An AYA cancer patient or survivor. 
    • Friends, family members, and caregivers of an AYA patients and survivors may also enter. 
    • Healthcare or non-profit professional that actively work with AYAs diagnosed with cancer.
  • Non-Professional Artists – Professional artists (those who earn the majority of their income from art) are ineligible.
Participant Consent
    • Ownership of Information: You retain full ownership of all information, media, and stories you provide.
    • Use of Information: All information provided can be used for the purposes of the Art Connects Cancer: Art Competition and any related content. 
    • Right to Withdraw: You have the right to withdraw any information you provide at any time. We encourage you to only share information you are comfortable with. If you would like to withdraw or modify any information you have provided please email caya@irishcancer.ie.
    • Anonymity: If preferred, you may remain anonymous in the final gallery. If you choose not to be a named participant, we will replace your name with an alias for the gallery.

    Your Artist's Statement is to reflect on the theme of cancer. You are invited to explore your creativity and express your unique experience through your artwork. Share a short (max 100 words) artist statement telling us what you use to make your artwork, what your art is about and what inspired your piece.
