2-Part Training: Take one or both:

  • SESSION 1: Interviewing and giving brief advice to immigrant children and families
  • SESSION 2: Helping parents and caregivers plan for a potential deportation

This training is designed to teach volunteer attorneys how to support immigrant children and families, both through providing an immigration consult and helping families prepare a backup plan, if they are ultimately arrested or detained by immigration authorities.

Open to volunteer attorneys and legal services provider staff, volunteers must accept a pro bono commitment in order to attend.
  • Participants attending Session 1 must volunteer at 2 Maryland Immigrant Legal Assistance Project (MILAP) consult clinics within 1 year of training.
  • Participants attending PM Session 2 must volunteer to help 2 parents and/or caregivers to create their plan in conjunction with a project partner (either at a clinic or by taking a case).
  • Participants attending both sessions must volunteer at 1 consult clinic and help 1 family and/or caregiver create their plan (either at a clinic or by taking a case).
