The ideal Breeder Caretaker is able and willing to house and care for either a male or female adult dog around two (2) years of age for the lifetime of the dog. For male dogs, the Breeder Caretaker is able to make the dog available to DBL when requested. For female dogs, the Breeder Caretaker is able and willing to monitor the pregnancy and then whelp the litter of puppies for eight (8) weeks under the guidance of DBL staff and veterinarians.

On occasion, DBL has the opportunities for part-time Breeder Caretakers to host one of female breeder dogs. One part-time opportunity is caring for a female breeder dog year round but not whelping the litter. The other opportunity is hosting a female breeder dog for approximately one (1) month before birth and whelping the litter for eight (8) weeks
