Course Description

The Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) Fundamentals Course introduces students to the principles, symbols, and application of GD&T used in engineering drawings throughout aerospace manufacturing and mechanical industries. This course is ideal for individuals seeking to develop a strong understanding of how design intent is communicated through standardized geometric controls and tolerancing practices. Students will learn how to interpret GD&T callouts, analyze feature control frames, identify datums, and apply geometric tolerances to ensure manufacturing accuracy and quality.

Skills Covered:

  • Understanding GD&T symbols, terminology, and standards
  • Reading and interpreting feature control frames
  • Identifying and applying datums and datum reference frames
  • Understanding form, orientation, location, profile, and runout controls
  • Interpreting tolerance zones and geometric requirements
  • Applying GD&T concepts to engineering and aerospace drawings
  • Understanding the relationship between design intent, manufacturing, and inspection
  • Recognizing how GD&T improves part fit, function, and interchangeability
