Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Wise Readers to Leaders for the 2025-2026 school year! Below you will find a description of our remote programs and volunteer opportunities:

Please note that scholar availability varies throughout the year, and some accepted tutors may be placed on a waitlist before being matched. As new scholars join the program, we will contact tutors on the waitlist to move forward with matching. Thank you for your patience and commitment to supporting Wise Readers to Leaders scholars.

Remote Reading:  a near-peer mentorship program in which teen or college volunteers will be paired with a K-8th grade scholar and meet independently for 30-45 minutes of tutoring each week. Tutors can help scholars navigate difficult vocabulary, check in on comprehension, talk about themes, and more!

Remote Math Tutoring:  a near-peer mentorship program in which teen or college volunteers will be paired with a K-8th grade scholar and meet independently for 30-45 minutes of tutoring each week. Tutors can help scholars with their homework, work on practice problems, play math games, and more!

These programs run from September 2025 through May 2026, taking off Thanksgiving, winter, and spring breaks. Volunteers must be able to consistently volunteer for 30-45 minutes per week for the entire duration of this program. These meeting times would be determined between you and your scholar family.

All tutors are required to attend a mandatory training session for the subject(s) they apply for. Wise Readers to Leaders staff will email you with more information.

*Training information and tracking form will be sent after signature page from Policy Packet is received*

WRTL Remote Tutoring Contribution
Our Remote Tutoring program and our larger programs exist because of generous financial support from individuals and families such as yours. We suggest a $200 membership contribution for our volunteering opportunities this summer.

Your membership contribution not only sustains the program, but truly shows a familial commitment to healing the world and making a difference. We encourage our JLLs and their families to view this membership contribution as an opportunity to live important values, such as generosity, commitment to community and authentic relationship building. With that being said, we do not want financial hardship to be a limiting factor for any teen or family. Please reach out to the WRTL Management at wrtl@wisereaderstoleaders.org so that we can make an arrangement that is suitable to your family.

Wise Readers to Leaders is proud to be able to offer our teen members an opportunity to apply for the Presidential Volunteer Service Award. For more information about the PVSA, please click here.
