MALE APPLICANT - REFERENCE FORM

Thank you for your willingness to submit a reference. Before beginning, please take some time to thoroughly read the information below. This will give you clearer understanding of what our school requires and what we are looking for in your responses.  Additionally, for a better understanding of 18 Inch Journey Phase One, you can find a full description of our school on our website here. This description will give you more context for our school and could help inform whether you feel the applicant you are referring will be able to thrive in our environment.  We appreciate your candor and intentionality as you fill out this reference form. We will not share your responses with the applicant you are referring at any point. Thank you!

About the 18 Inch Journey

Phase One of the 18 Inch Journey is a school of spiritual formation and discipleship.  It’s specifically focused on teaching students how to be followers of Jesus in every area and season of life. Our school is structured around mentorship, community rhythms, and the hard work of pursuing emotional wholeness so that we can thrive in life.  Simply put: It is a 2-month intensive, which requires a tremendous amount of humility, maturity, and relational rigor. Our desire is to empower students to honestly examine both the fruitful and painful parts of their lives, and submit their honesty and vulnerability to Jesus so that He can heal them. Our desire is to empower our students to walk out Jesus’ greatest commandment "to love God and to love people" throughout their lives.

What we’re looking for:

We believe that every applicant who is drawn to apply for our school has a strong desire to go deeper with the Lord!  We also believe that every human heart carries a valuable story and expression of the heart of God.  We are looking for students who want to keep growing by practicing humility, vulnerability, and a willingness to receive help. With this in mind, we are not looking for a reference similar to the kind one might give for a job interview, college or ministry recommendation, etc. We are looking for a reference from you that shares honestly about your perspective of the applicant from your own relational experience with them.  We are not looking for you to give a “perfect" or “glowing" reference. Instead, we are looking for a reference from you that helps provide a well-rounded picture of the applicant and where they could benefit from the help our school offers.

Please consider the following:

  • Please answer these questions as thoughtfully and honestly as possible.
  • These questions depend strongly on your current relationship with the applicant.  If you don’t feel able to answer these questions as thoroughly as you'd like on the applicant's behalf, we encourage you to ask him to request a reference from someone else.
  • Please note, we do not accept references from parents or significant others. If this applies to you please ask the applicant to choose someone else.
  • As previously stated, we realize that if the applicant is applying for our school, he is seeking encounter and transformation by the Love of God.  We are not expecting them to be perfect and know they are coming to us with needs.  We value your honest feedback as to what those needs are, and additional insight into how we would likely experience the applicant within the context of our school.

*THIS PERSON’S APPLICATION WILL NOT BE PROCESSED WITHOUT YOUR REFERENCE FORM.
