The Jack Miller Center is thrilled to announce the Teaching America250 Awards thanks to generous support from Carnegie Corporation of New York. The Teaching America250 Awards will allow 51 teachers across the country to develop and implement engaging educational projects focused on the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.


JMC will award one teacher in every state + DC with a $5,000 prize to execute a project of his or her own design to educate students and community members in the principles of the Declaration of Independence. We hope to award prizes to a variety of projects, from field trips and school assemblies to extracurricular activities and student art projects.

Project Proposal

If you have questions about the project proposal requirements and guidelines, see our FAQ page, here.

Tell us about the project you would like to conduct. What activities will be take place? Who will benefit from the project? How many students will it impact? What learning will occur? How will you incorporate the Declaration of Independence and the 250th anniversary into your project?

List at least three goals you hope your project will achieve. Think along the lines of "Students who participate in this project will..." or "This project will result in..."

Your project should be conducted during the 2026 calendar year. Tell us when your project will commence, the schedule on which you'll carry out the project, and when it will conclude.

Opportunities for Special Event Attendance

Select winners of the Teaching America250 Awards will have the opportunity to attend one of two upcoming national civic education conferences: the Civic Learning Week National Forum or the National Summit on Civic Education.

The Civic Learning Week National Forum is hosted by iCivics and the Democratic Knowledge Project and will take place on March 9-10 in Philadelphia, PA. Winners selected to attend the National Forum will have access to the entire conference, which will include plenary sessions and professional development breakout sessions. Thought leaders, educators, and civic education organizations will present a variety of learning opportunities. Read more about the National Forum here

The National Summit on Civic Education is hosted by the Jack Miller Center and will take place on May 18-19 in Philadelphia, PA. Winners selected to attend the National Summit on Civic Education will have access to the entire conference, which will include plenary and breakout sessions featuring thought leaders, scholars, and civic education organizations. The winners of the Teaching America250 Awards will receive special recognition at the Summit. Read more about the National Summit on Civic Education here

Winners who are selected to attend one of the two conferences will receive financial support (up to $2,500) to cover travel, lodging, and other costs associated with attending the conferences.
