Level of Commitment
The Navigator Certificate in Human Services and Community Justice course requires students to commit to sixteen weeks of professional and academic training. The following questions are related to the level of commitment this course will expect from each student. 















Essay Questions

An integral part of the Navigator Certificate in Human Services and Community Justice course is writing. Please choose ONE of the THREE below questions to answer in essay form. Each essay should be:
- 300-500 words
- Typed in 12pt font
- Double spaced
- Saved as a word document and uploaded to this applicatio

(PLEASE NOTE YOU MUST COMPLETE ONE ESSAY AND UPLOAD YOUR ESSAY AS AN ATTACHMENT OR THE APPLICATION WILL BE CONSIDERED INCOMPLETE AND WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED)


Essay 1
Recount a time you helped an individual or community in need.

In your essay, please include the following:
(a) Describe your approach to helping the individual(s)
(b) What contributed to you being successful in your efforts
(c) How this experience contributed to a new understanding of yourself or others.


Essay 2
What motivates you to enroll in the Navigator Certificate in the Human Services and Community Justice course? 

In your essay, please include the following: 

(a) What do you hope to gain at the end of the course?
(b) What are your career goals in the Human Services Field?
(c) How do you intend on using the skills you acquire from the Navigator Certificate in Human
       Services and Community Justice course in your current position or your future position in the
       field of Human Services?



Essay 3
Describe a time during your lived experience in the criminal justice system when you helped someone?  

In your essay, please include the following: 

(a) What challenges arose and how did you overcome those challenges with the individual?
(b) What lesson(s) did you learn from that experience?                                                                 
(c) How could the knowledge you gained from this experience help you in the Navigator
      Certificate in Human Services and Community Justice course and in the Human Services field?



Professional References
Please provide written letters of recommendation from two professional references. Family members or friends will not be accepted as professional references.

Please note: Applicants who advance to the interview stage will be required to submit at least one letter of recommendation before they can be accepted into the program. We strongly encourage applicants to notify their professional references ahead of time that they may be asked for a letter of recommendation. Letters of recommendation are due no later than August 1st in order for your application to be considered.
