The Kaplan Family Distinguished Faculty Fellowship honors and supports faculty members who have facilitated a transformative experience for Cornell students in any number of community-engaged learning contexts. Each year the Kaplan Fellowship is awarded to one faculty member who receives $10,000 to:

further develop an ongoing community-based learning course or research project,
initiate a new effort, or
seek institutionalization of a community-engaged learning course.

The recipient will be honored at the Einhorn Center awards event on the evening of Wednesday, April 22, 2026.

Applications are due Monday, February 9, 2026 at 11:59pm.

Narrative Descriptions

Please answer each of the following prompts in 300 words or less.

Describe your proposed project. The proposal may involve further developing an ongoing community-based learning course or research project, initiating a new effort or seeking institutionalization of a community-engaged learning course.

How will the project engage the community, add value to the particular community and involve community partners in aspects of its planning and implementation?

How will Cornell students engage with the project, and what will be the target student population (quantity, class years, majors)?

How will the project meet the 4-point criteria for community-engaged learning?

How will you sustain the community-engagement opportunity for students beyond any single cohort?

While a detailed budget is not required, please identify how you will utilize grant funds (ie categories of expenditures) to support project goals.
