IMPORTANT: Before completing this section, be sure to review the
Audition Instructions page on our website, and the
Audition Schedule document.
Auditions for the 2026-27 Season are held in-person. Auditioning in person is strongly recommended. If a student has scheduling or traveling conflicts with all in-person audition dates, then an online audition may be accepted. See below for more information.
Students should select the most advanced level of audition material that they feel comfortable with and can play well on the
Ensemble Levels page. There is no option on this form to select the ensemble for which a student wants to audition. Adjudicators will know which ensemble a student has selected by the music they perform in their audition.
Registration is open through end of day May 25, 2026.IMPORTANT INFO FOR IN-PERSON AUDITIONS: - Instruments are organized into brackets of time by age and audition day. Not all instruments and age groups audition on every day.
- Select your audition day below, based on instrument, age, and your student's availability.
- Once this registration form is submitted, the preferred auditions times you enter below (both the preferred time and alternates), should be considered final. However, since registration is opening earlier this year, unforeseen scheduling conflicts may occur, so please email auditions@byso.org to see if the original audition time request can be changed prior to May 29, though this is not guaranteed. Any requests submitted to the office after May 29 to reschedule an audition will be denied.
- You may also enter schedule conflicts or time requests in the field provided below. We cannot guarantee that schedule requests will be accommodated.
- Audition time slot requests are processed in the order in which they are received.
- Audition time slot confirmation emails with your student's specific 10 minute audition time will be sent out by May 29. As of May 29, audition time slots are final.
- If you register for a date/time that closes before administration has a chance to update this form, you will be contacted with other audition options.
Be sure to include alternate dates that work with your schedule.IMPORTANT INFO FOR ONLINE AUDITIONS:
It is strongly recommended that students audition in person. Online auditions are offered
only if a student has an unavoidable conflict with all available in-person audition dates for their instrument and age group.
Online auditions require a student to record all audition music in one take listed on the Ensemble Levels page for their chosen ensemble, and will include a sight-reading portion. Video compilations of different takes will not be accepted.
In the past, we have encountered situations where students and/or parents have tried to cheat on the site-reading portion of their online audition in an attempt to gain higher ensemble placement. We take academic integrity very seriously, and any student found guilty of this will not be offered a spot for the 2026-27 season.
If your student elects to audition via the online process, then the following applies:
- Online instructions will be sent via email within two weeks of registration.
- Virtual submissions must be received no later than June 13, 2026.
.Indicate if you are planning to audition in person or by submitting an online video below. For Online auditions, select "Online Submission" and choose your group based on instrument and age.
