About Make Tech Work For You

We believe every social profit organization deserves to have data and technology woven into the fabric of their culture. Achieving this takes more than short-term projects or one-off implementations—it requires a stable, ongoing investment in culture and human capacity. But not every organization has the resources for full-time, in-house data and tech roles (yet). The Make Tech Work For You team embeds in the organization as the fractional tech team - we serve as everything from System Admins to Data Entry Clerks, sharing knowledge, documenting processes, and establishing culture until the organization has stabilized, grown, and made space on their team for their own dedicated tech colleague. We establish a framework and culture of success for the organization to establish in-house tech role(s) that can grow and thrive in the organization.

Position: Fractional Social Profit Data & Tech Specialist

Job Type: Part-time contractor, avg. 20 hrs/wk

Schedule: Flexible during typical business hours (8am-8pm, western hemisphere timezones)

Start Date: By mutual agreement, as soon as possible

Compensation: Monthly stipend of $4000

Location: Remote

Position Description

The Fractional Social Profit Data & Tech Specialist works with multiple organizations in the capacity of a tech team member. This can include having regular meetings with staff members across all functions (Development, Program, Finance, Operations, etc), managing ad hoc requests and tasks as well as ongoing projects and implementations, serving as tech product owner for a variety of systems (Salesforce, Spreadsheets, CRMs, LMSs, Survey/Form tools, Google Suite products, Email Marketing platforms, etc), teaching/training staff members on how to use their data & technology, and anything else that an in-house tech team member might encounter. This position provides a strong influence for how the organization will understand how a successful data & tech team member provides support and how a successful data & tech culture looks and feels.

What You’ll Do in this Role

Systems Co-Owner: Serve as the co-owner of technology systems, beginning with a majority of the responsibility over the systems and data within them, gradually passing the ownership to the clients. Most of our clients use Salesforce, and this role is often the only Admin of the system.

Integrations: Build, monitor, and improve on integrations between tech platforms

Data Collection: Lead data collection work, including process design, tool choice, and building collection processes (ie. building forms, surveys, paper forms, etc)

Workflow/Project Management: Use Asana, Miro, and other project management tools to build, document, and maintain all client work.

Data Entry: Manual and automated data entry

Documentation Writing: Document all aspects of client data & technology to create a living library of information that informs their staff and future tech colleagues/team.

Research and Innovation: Stay aware of data & technology trends in the sector and beyond, bringing research and ideas to clients to advance their work.

Automations: Support the streamlining and enhancement of business processes through automations where appropriate

Training & Development: Work directly with staff members to share knowledge and skills that give them more autonomy and confidence with their data & tech.

Fractional Tech Team: Imagine anything else that a person on a technology team does that isn’t managing hardware. We don’t set up phones or computers, we don’t maintain the internet connections in offices, but anything else is fair game.

What you bring to the role

  • Professional experience working in a Social Profit - as part of a tech team is great, but applicants bringing deep knowledge of other areas are encouraged to bring that experience!

  • Experienced user of database(s), Form building tools, workflow tools, spreadsheets, automations, integrations, and other key technologies

  • The first question you ask to any technology request is “why?“

  • Ability to work independently, set priorities and meet deadlines.
