🎬 MUSIC: THE INVISIBLE CHARACTER IN FILM & TV 🎶

A Virtual Workshop with Teen Cancer America’s Play It Back Music Program

What if you took a movie scene and completely changed the way it made people feel, just by changing the music?

Think about your favorite movie or TV show. Now imagine watching it with no music.

No ominous strings building the suspense in a horror movie.
No emotional piano underneath a heartbreaking scene.
No huge orchestral swell when the hero finally wins.

Music is one of the most powerful and often invisible characters in a story. It creates emotion, sets the mood, builds tension, tells us what to feel, and brings the world on screen to life.

We’re SO excited to bring together young people from across the country for our next virtual Play It Back workshop of 2026, where we’ll take you behind the scenes of the music you hear in film and television and then give you a chance to try it yourself!

WHAT TO EXPECT

Our special guest film & TV composers will share their process, how they approach a scene, develop musical ideas, and use music to help tell the story.  You’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at their creative process, hear how they make decisions about everything from mood to melody, and then you’ll get to experiment with the process yourself.

No musical experience is required. All skill levels are welcome!

Play It Back was created to give young people impacted by cancer a place to express themselves, connect with others, and find joy and community through music. This workshop isn’t about perfection… it’s about creativity, curiosity, connection, and having fun.  Come hang out in a welcoming, judgment-free space with other young artists who share your love of music and who understand the journey you’re on.
