DiverseCity Fellows

2027/28 CivicAction DiverseCity Fellows Application

CivicAction’s DiverseCity Fellows program, powered by Purpose Unlimited, is a respected year-long experience for leaders from diverse communities and backgrounds across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) who have demonstrated experience in civic changemaking and are looking to amplify their leadership skills, grow their network, explore social issues, and become further emboldened to drive positive change in their communities. 

 

Over the course of the program year, chosen applicants, or Fellows, will build personalized leadership development plans, receive coaching and mentorship, and participate in skills-building sessions to build key leadership competencies, strengthen cross-sectoral connections, and drive tangible change.  


Upon program completion, Fellows will join a powerful network comprised of hundreds of DiverseCity alumni, mentors, and city-builders across the region.

 

Who should apply 

  • Civic-minded leaders typically in their mid-career who are committed to making our region a more inclusive and better place to live and work.  
  • Individuals with at least five years of demonstrated history of leadership in their communities or sector (professional and/or volunteer).  
  • Creative problem-solvers who are collaborative, empathetic, inclusive, and results-oriented.  
  • Please note that due to the in-person elements of this program, the Fellowship is only available to individuals living and/or working in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area  
CivicAction works to ensure that our programming is reflective of the needs, realities and lived experiences of equity-denied communities across the region — including Indigenous, Black, racialized, 2SLGBTQIA+, and newcomer leaders — and is committed to ensuring that the Fellowship is a space where diverse voices and lived experiences are valued and represented.  

INSTRUCTIONS
 The application form is divided into five sections. Please make sure that you have completed all the sections and have uploaded the following required documents in PDF format in the last section: 
  • A current resume/CV (no more than 3-pages)
  • 1 Recommendation Form completed by a current or previous employer*
  • 1 Recommendation Form completed by your personal reference
*The Recommendation Form can be downloaded in section 4. Attachments 

*If you are self-employed or unemployed, both Recommendation Forms can be completed by a personal reference. 

 

When completing the application form, please consider your professional, volunteer and lived experiences. Candidates may choose to submit audio responses in lieu of the written answers. When you get to the “Application Questions” section of the form, simply upload separate audio files for each question (using the ‘Choose File’ button located under each text box). Please write N/A in the text box if you are not providing a written response. Kindly adhere to the time and word limits for each question.
