Hurricane Island Outward Bound School (HIOBS) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to spark lifelong growth through challenge—outside. Outward Bound courses take place in remote wilderness areas. Programs are physically, mentally, and emotionally challenging for staff and students alike. They are also affirming, powerful, and encourage considerable personal growth. Courses include rigorous expeditions such as backpacking, canoeing, and sailing. Other technical activities include rock climbing and whitewater canoeing.
These activities are used as catalysts for personal enrichment and group development. Instructors must have an appropriate blend of risk management, technical outdoor skills, teaching skills, interpersonal skills, and facilitation skills for this position.
