ELIGIBILITY

The program is designed to be a 3-year program, where we ideally begin to work with students after their first year of undergraduate studies until their graduation. Because of this, RTS has a strong preference for applicants who meet the following eligibility:

  • System-impacted background (such as Foster system / Foster care, Kin Gap Care, Adopted, Institutionalized group home, Legal guardianship, Wards of the court, Unaccompanied homeless youth, or similar experiences)

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree at a California-based school

  • Current first-year student and/or graduation date of Spring 2030

The RTS program runs primarily virtually โ€” Advisor meetings, workshops, and support happen over Zoom, so you can stay connected no matter where you're based.

If you do not meet the above listed eligibility requirements, you are likely not eligible for our program. However, if you have a special circumstance or have questions about our eligibility requirements, please email us at apply@readytosucceedla.org

RTS SCHOLAR EXPECTATIONS

What's expected of you each year, and how much time does it actually take?

  • Showing up for mandatory virtual workshops and events
  • Making progress on your Career Action Plan and knocking out any assigned to-do items by your Advisor

Guidelines for Sharing Personal Experiences
We encourage authenticity and personal reflection in your responses. However, to create a safe and respectful space, we want to remind applicants that you are not required to share personal details about your foster care experience unless you feel comfortable doing so. Additionally, we ask everyone to be mindful of trauma sharingโ€”the sharing of deeply personal or painful experiences in ways that may feel overwhelming for you and/or others to relive.

We want to hear your story in your own words. If you use AI/digital tools, please make sure your final answers feel authentic to you and truthful to your life. Responses that feel 100% AI copy/pasted will not be reviewed. We also suggest drafting this in a word doc, then copying and pasting here once it is finalized.
