Abstract Submission Overview
CCST and the California Natural Resources Agency invite you to submit abstracts for Science Day 2026! Use this form to submit for two events, both held on October 5, 2026 at the CNRA Headquarters in Sacramento:
  • Science Day Poster Session: Open to State scientists and other government-affiliated groups, academic and federal lab researchers, nonprofits, community organizations, and others
  • Poster Session + Science Translators Showcase (up to 12 positions): For graduate students and postdocs at CCST Partner Institutions, level up your science communication with a series of virtual training sessions + the opportunity to present a 3 min. pitch at Science Day

Timeline

  • Submissions due: 11:59 pm on Friday, July 10th. Portal may close at any time if capacity is reached. Decisions will be communicated around mid-August.
  • Acceptance is conditional on presenter's commitment to attend Science Day in person in Sacramento on Monday, October 5. Science Translators Showcase participants must be able to attend the online trainings preceding Science Day.
  • Registration to attend is free of charge, however, presenters are responsible for poster printing costs and travel to Sacramento.
About Science Day
Science Day (Oct. 5-6, 2026) connects state-level science and policy with the incredible research happening in universities, labs, and other research institutions across California. By exploring various initiatives implemented by state agencies, this event seeks to develop new or expanded opportunities to support California in achieving its climate goals.

Directions:
  • Abstracts must be a maximum of 250 words (not including author name(s), affiliation(s), or title) and demonstrate the project’s connection to the categories listed below.
  • As appropriate, abstracts should also include the main research question(s), a brief description of the research methodology, results, and the larger significance/impact of the research or connection to the categories listed below.

Science Translators Showcase

Science Communication Training and a 3-min Pitch 
In addition to their poster, selected "Science Translators" participate in a series of virtual policy and communication training from CCST and get a chance to "pitch" their research at Science Day at CNRA. CCST is looking for candidates who are eager to learn science communication and connect their research to real policy questions. Through a training series and culminating Showcase, participants will build science policy skills, network with other researchers, and represent their home institution. See the 2025 Science Translators in action at S&T Week 2025.

Applicant Eligibility:
  • Must be a graduate student (Master’s or Doctoral) or postdoctoral scholar in a science or engineering field at one of CCST’s Partner Institutions.
  • Must be available to travel to Sacramento for the day-long event on Monday, October 5, 2026.
  • Must be available to participate in up to 4 one-hour long training webinars ahead of the program’s in-person event.

We highly encourage you to participate in the Showcase as an attendee at Science Day 2026 to support the graduate students and postdocs in communicating their research.
