Working with Children & Youth in CAN's Educational Programs
Enrichment Groups

Enrichment groups enhance CAN's After School Program by leading engaging lessons or activities that complement our existing curriculum. Because space is limited, enrichment opportunities are competitive. Groups are selected based on the quality, purpose, and preparedness of their proposed activity.

To be considered, your group must submit a clear outline of the activity you would like to lead, including your objectives, planned activities, and any materials you will provide. Proposed activities should support at least two of the following:

  • Fun: Crafts, sports, games, creative arts, or other engaging activities.
  • Education: Science, nutrition, financial literacy, gardening, reading, tutoring, cultural learning, mindfulness, goal setting, and similar topics.
  • Social-Emotional Development: Building positive relationships with children, encouraging teamwork, fostering confidence, and creating meaningful connections.

Strong enrichment proposals also demonstrate that your group will:

  • Design age-appropriate, engaging activities.
  • Come prepared with all necessary materials.
  • Be flexible and responsive to the needs of the children and community center.
  • Work collaboratively with CAN staff by submitting lesson plans for approval in advance.
  • Have a designated group leader who serves as the primary point of contact.
  • Have experience or training related to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and belonging (IDEA).

Commitment:

  • Enrichment groups may participate as a one-time experience or on an ongoing schedule, depending on program needs and availability.

  • Volunteer 2-3 hours each week on a consistent schedule for one semester or longer.

  • After School Program Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 3:00-6:00 p.m

Food Distributions

Help support food security by assisting with our community food distributions.

Volunteers unload food deliveries, sort and organize food, pack grocery bags, and help distribute food to community members. Training and ongoing support are provided.

Commitment:

  • Food Distribution volunteers are asked to serve on a consistent schedule for a minimum of three months. At this time, we are not able to accommodate one-time group volunteer opportunities for food distributions, as ongoing volunteers are essential to maintaining efficient operations and building relationships with our community members.

Food Distribution Schedule:

  • Arrowwood Hills – 2nd Friday of the month, 8:30 AM to Noon
  • Brick – Thursdays, 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM
  • Bryant – Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, 9:00 AM to Noon
  • Creekside Court – 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month, 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM
  • Green Baxter Court – Every other Wednesday, 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM
  • Hikone – Every other Wednesday, 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM
Working on General Community Projects

Support CAN through a variety of one-time or occasional service projects that help strengthen our community.

Volunteers may assist with community clean-ups, food and supply drives, event support, gardening, deep cleaning, school supply collections, and facility improvement projects.

Opportunities vary based on current organizational needs.

Commitment:

  • Join our interest list to be contacted when volunteer opportunities become available.
  • Opportunities are offered on an as-needed basis and vary in schedule and time commitment.
