Request a BSV Volunteer for 2026-27!

This application is intended for host staff who are interested in hosting a volunteer on an ongoing basis. Any BUSD educator can request a volunteer and we do our best to find the right volunteer for your unique needs. However, please be aware that all matches are subject to volunteer availability and we cannot guarantee a placement for every request

Timeline: In August and early September, BSV prioritizes placements for returning volunteers with established volunteer placements

Host Teachers may, of course, request any start date they want for a volunteer.

First Meeting Checklist - Setting Volunteers up for Success! Volunteers have reported that feel most successful when their educator gives a brief orientation to their class, their school, and their specific volunteer needs.

I commit to meeting once virtually or in-person with my volunteer before we start collaborating, and can use BSV's First Meeting Checklist to guide this important kick-off conversation.

Note: This year, BSV is rolling out a new CA requirement that requires all youth-serving organizations to make all youth-facing people, volunteers included, official mandated reporters. For more information, review CA AB506.

What Happens Next?

If you're requesting a volunteer or volunteers who you've worked with in the past, we'll need to ensure they clear screening requirements first - BSV will let you know via email but we try to be pretty quick about it.

If you're requesting a new volunteer or volunteers who are new to you, we'll make the match as soon as we find the right fit (pending screening clearance). Depending on your request and/or our flow of volunteers, this could take weeks or it could take months! Once we find someone, we will check in with you and then do a formal email introduction, after which you'll launch your new partnership.
