The 2027 Medical Student-in-Training Scholars Program is open to all medical students within the United States and Canada. 


Program award:

  • Free registration to SIR 2027
  • $1,000 scholarship to support travel to SIR 2027
  • Special recognition during the meeting
  • Dedicated medical student programming, Saturday, March 20
  • Dedicated Scholars reception and networking opportunities at SIR 2027


Application criteria:

  • Applicants must be medical students within the U.S. or Canada.  
  • Applicant must be an SIR Medical Student Member.  Not a member, join here
  • Applicants doing a research year (not yet graduated) are eligible to apply
  • Prior SIR Medical Student Scholarship recipients are not eligible to apply
  • Applicants who have served or currently serving as a member of the Medical Student General Council are not eligible to apply
  • Applicants Invited/accepted to speak at a general session or medical student, resident programming at SIR 2027 are not eligible to apply

Please provide the following materials to complete this online application:

  1. Completed application form
  2. Up-to-date CV
  3. One (1) document (word or pdf) that answers each of the essay questions listed in the section below.
  4. Optional letter of recommendation from an attending physician. (***Your attending letter writer submits your letter of recommendation separate from this application.  Instructions and a letter submission link will appear on your confirmation page after submitting your Scholar Program application.

SIR membership is required to apply for the Medical Student Travel Scholarship. To verify your SIR membership status as a medical student, visit https://www.sirweb.org/myaccount and login. Your SIR member number and member status will be listed.

3. In 250 words or less, please describe what you hope to gain by attending the SIR Annual Scientific Meeting.

An attending physician may submit an optional letter of recommendation to support your application.  *The attending does not need to be an SIR member.
