Leveraging Organization Design Principles to Support Strategy Workshop Waitlist

September 22, 2026, 10:00am-4:00pm
SIF Office, 77 Franklin St. 9th Floor, Boston MA 02110

Nonprofit leaders are increasingly being asked to do more with less while responding to rapidly changing funding environments, community needs, and policy shifts. In this chaotic environment, many organization leaders are trying to figure out whether or how to “re-design” their organization to ensure sustainability, nimbleness, and capacity while effectively implementing strategy.

Effective organization design begins with clarity about the organization's business model—how it creates, delivers, and sustains purpose. While many redesign efforts begin by revisiting reporting relationships or organizational charts ("moving around the proverbial deck chairs"), effective redesign starts by aligning purpose, strategy, business model, and organizational design.

This interactive workshop will introduce participants to organization design principles. Grounded in their organization’s business model (the organization's theory of change, operating model, and economic model combined), participants will apply these principles to understand how purpose, values, and strategy together translate into organizational design choices.

Participants will leave with:

  • A framework for assessing whether their organization's design supports its strategy.

  • Practical tools for making organization design decisions.

  • Shared language leadership can be used to evaluate future organizational changes.

  • A roadmap for aligning structure, roles, decision-making, and processes with strategic priorities.

Who should participate:

This workshop is designed for 2-4 leaders from the same organization to participate as a team, so the applied work benefits from multiple perspectives on the organization. We recommend that the Executive Director be one of the participants. Other participants should include other senior leaders and/or board members.

This workshop is well suited for leadership teams that are seeking to effectively execute their current strategy or who are developing new strategies for their organization.

To secure a spot, organizations will identify a primary point person and list the other team members who will make up their 2-4 person team. There will be an opportunity to adjust and finalize the list of team members attending. However, because we have limited spots, we ask each organization that signs up to commit to bringing a team of 2-4 organizational leaders (staff and board). If you are interested in having more than 4 people attend, please email Annette Valdouin at avaldouin@socialinnovationforum.org to inquire about space.
