This is a professional training intensive taking place over 2 months (8 weeks) from September 21 through to November 13 and focused on providing skills development, networking opportunities and on-set experience to support pathways towards IATSE 873 permittee status for up to 5 Makeup Artists.
The Intensive encompasses 10 different production opportunities and additional sessions, meetings and workshops led by industry professionals. This intensive is designed to:
• Elevate your professional onscreen makeup skillsets
• Expand your professional creative network
• Offer you more prep, on-set experience and onscreen credits
• Foster your abilities to both assist and lead within the department
• Offer you “on the job” individual coaching and guidance
• Build your artistic and professional confidence
• Increase your ability to engage with and navigate the business
• Strengthen your screen-based career opportunities
MUAs are asked to give this intensive their primary consideration over the 8-week period and to be fully available for the first 2 weeks for in-person refreshers and workshops.
Eligibility requirements:
This intensive has been created to help advance equity for talent both in front of and behind the camera, ensuring career pathways are developed for diverse Makeup Artists who are also equipped with the skills required to meet the needs of racialized actors.
• Candidates must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada at the time of applying
• Candidates must self-identify as Black, Indigenous and/or racialized
• Candidates must have some professional on-set film & TV Makeup experience
Here are some Intensive details:
• CFC’s Fall Production schedule for the Norman Jewison Film Program and CBC Actors Conservatory are anchors of this intensive, offering on-set/on-screen opportunities and greater engagement with the CFC’s talent community and cast and crew
• To maximize on-set hours/days and experience, each MUA will be assigned 2 productions as a HOD and assist on up to 4 other productions working with their MU peers
• CFC shoot days are 11+1 hours with crew, 8+1 hours with actors, no unit moves during a filming day and tail lights at 11 p.m
• Shooting is set to begin October 5, with some weekend commitments. October & November shoot dates to be confirmed once the Intensive begins
• In addition to working on these productions, MUAs will take part in various workshops, refreshers and meetings designed and led by industry professionals to help upskill their technical and business skillsets.
Selected MUAs will be asked to sign a CFC participant agreement to confirm their participation and will also be awarded a bursary of $2,000 total provided by the CFC, paid in 2 x $1,000 installments.

Why Are We Asking for This Information?
This intensive is made possible in part through funding from Employment Ontario, with support from the Government of Ontario and the Government of Canada. As part of this funding, the Canadian Film Centre is required to collect certain participant information for program registration, administration, and reporting.
We recognize that some of these questions are personal, and we want to be transparent about why we're asking them. This information is collected solely to meet the reporting requirements associated with the funding that allows us to offer this intensive training at no cost to participants.
