CCST and the California Natural Resources Agency invite you to register for Science Day 2026 in Sacramento! Science Day fosters collaboration and removes barriers to partnership between research institutions and the California State scientists.

Cost
Free to register! This event is generously hosted by CCST and CNRA, with additional support from sponsoring organizations.

Events include:

Panel Discussions: Integrating tribal and traditional ecological knowledge, strengthening foundational science through partnership, and exploring science career pathways for public good.
Poster session: Featuring cross-cutting research from groups across the state, including academic, state, and national lab scientists.
CCST's Science Translators Showcase: Featuring poster presenters who completed a science communication training program
Breakout sessions: Identify current partnership challenges and opportunities, discuss cross-cutting topics and ideas, and communicating with state partners.
Happy hour networking mixer: Continue the conversations from the day and discuss future opportunities for Day 2.

Integrating Data and Observations: This breakout explores how California can better connect environmental data collection with the decisions that depend on it. The featured Lightning Talks surface a common challenge: as more sophisticated tools generate more observational data than ever, how do we integrate, share, and act on it across agencies and institutions? Speakers will share lessons learned and discuss what's needed to build a more connected, interoperable data ecosystem for environmental decision-making.
Climate-Water-Energy Resilience – How to Make ‘Best Available Science’ Even Better: As California faces compounding climate, water, and energy pressures, this breakout examines how the state's scientific foundation for decision-making can keep pace. Lightning talks will address compound and cascading climate risks — where multiple hazards interact and amplify one another. The session will ask what "best available science" really means in practice, and what new tools, partnerships, and services are needed to keep California's climate science ahead of an increasingly complex risk landscape.
Capturing Co-Benefits to Advance Multiple Policy Objectives: California's landscapes are being asked to do more than ever — support wildfire resilience, biodiversity, water supply, energy development, carbon sequestration, and economic opportunity, often on the same acre of ground. This breakout brings together researchers and practitioners working at that intersection and on-the-ground perspectives. Speakers will share how co-benefit thinking is being applied — and where the biggest opportunities and obstacles remain — for managing land toward multiple policy goals at once.

Science Day (Oct. 5-6, 2026) connects state scientists and policy makers with the incredible research and applied stewardship happening in universities, labs, and tribes across California. This event seeks to develop new or expanded partnership opportunities to support California in achieving its natural resource management goals including climate action, wildfire resilience, biodiversity stewardship, and supporting healthy coasts and oceans.
