Missed #NextGen Capitol Region? Join us for a virtual presentation by #NextGen Capitol Region, Keynote Speaker, Ashley Barlow, J.D. presenting "Belonging Beyond Inclusion."
Inclusion is often discussed as a place, a program, or a service delivery model. But true inclusion is much deeper than proximity. It is not enough for a person with a disability to be present in a classroom, workplace, neighborhood, or community space. The real goal is belonging.
In this inspirational keynote, Ashley Barlow explores belonging as the heart of inclusion across the lifespan. Drawing from her experience as an attorney, special education advocate, parent, and national disability rights leader, Ashley will challenge participants to think beyond access and placement and toward the kind of community participation where people with disabilities are known, valued, supported, and expected to contribute.
This keynote will examine how belonging connects school inclusion to adult life, including health, social-emotional well-being, independent living, education, employment, transportation, relationships, and meaningful community participation. Participants will be encouraged to consider how the expectations, supports, and opportunities we create in school shape the way disabled students transition into adulthood and experience life in their communities.
With warmth, practical insight, and a hopeful call to action, Ashley will invite the audience to reimagine inclusion not as the final destination, but as the beginning of a larger conversation about dignity, connection, opportunity, and belonging.
