Join Northeast Passage's sled hockey team for practice! New players welcome! If you are interested in trying sled hockey for the first time, please email Northeast.Passage@unh.edu or call our office at 603-862-0070 to register. Sled hockey is a sit-down version of ice hockey predominantly played by athletes with disabilities. Players sit in custom ice sleds that have 2 skate blades mounted underneath. Players use two short hockey sticks, fixed with sharp, metal picks on the bottom ends, to propel themselves across the ice using their arms. Players also use these sticks to control the puck, pass to teammates, and score goals. Sled hockey features most of the same rules as stand-up hockey and is full-contact. Players who are not able to propel themselves can have a push-bar attached to their sleds so that someone on stand-up skates can motor them around the ice and get them in the play. Northeast Passage boasts one of the oldest sled hockey programs in the country and currently features over 40 athletes from beginners to Paralympic gold medalists!
