Come join us for an adaptive climbing event on June 23rd from 6 pm – 8 pm. All levels welcome. Climbers will have an opportunity to climb at University of New Hampshire’s indoor climbing wall. This event is for top rope climbing, so all climbers will be attached to the top rope system for safety. Northeast Passage will provide adaptive equipment and techniques to support climbers with physical impairments, intellectual disabilities, and additional support needs. Come try climbing independently, with a buddy, with assistive support, or sit climbing up a rope! We will have a few climbing stations. They are as follows: Climbing Stations 1: Climbers will climb independently of assistive devices or systems. They can choose to climb alongside a buddy or helper for encouragement or assistance. 2: Climbers will climb with the support of an assistive device that will help give them a “boost” as they climb up. This boost can be initiated by themselves, a buddy, or staff. 3: Climbers will use a sit climbing harness to ascend a rope alongside the climbing wall. They can self-propel using a system that will pull them up, or this can be initiated by a buddy or staff member. Note: Family members and friends are welcome to come climb with each participant to encourage or support with physical mobility. Please register as a "Parent/Care Provider" if you'd like to climb with the participant. Staff will belay (use the rope safety system) for each climber and provide additional support and advice as needed. All climbers must wear a traditional waist climbing harness or transfer into a seated climbing harness for this event. We will have a variety of stations with different levels of support for climbers from ascending a rope in a seated harness to climbing independently on a wall. If you are unsure of your climbing skills or how you may participate in this activity, please contact the office (603) 862-0070.
