Welcome to the application for the 2016 Unreasonable Institute! This application might seem unreasonably long, but it's our goal that the application process will create value for your venture. If you complete and submit an application, we guarantee that you'll get feedback on your venture from our reviewers.

Please note that not all fields are required. We just ask that you fill this out to the best of your ability. The application is only one data point in our selection process, so don't stress over it too much!

You can save this application and come back at anytime. The average submission time is around 2.5 hours, but we've seen it take longer for some entrepreneurs, so we encourage you to plan accordingly. Grab a comfy chair, break out some snacks, sit back and tell us about the amazing things you're doing. We can't wait to hear about it!

Our global network of alumni, partners, mentors and investors
will continue to support you long after the Institute ends!

About Your Venture

We are interested in the web presence of your venture. Does your venture currently have any of the following? (click all that apply)
@

Customized mentorship: We work hard to find mentors who can help you address your venture's top
needs. Some of the mentors in our network include a Time Hero of the Planet, the designer of
Google Glass, and a person who has raised over $1 billion for social impact organizations.

What Do You Do?

Avoid using jargon or complex terms. Just give us the simplest explanation that you can.

Keep going!
You're doing great!

Your Target Population

We define target population as your key beneficiaries. Your beneficiaries may or may not be your customers (the people who pay for your product or service). Be specific in describing your target population, including how large it is.

How did you become aware of this need? Stay focused on the need and how you became aware of it in your answer to this question (e.g. are you a member of the target population? Did you talk to dozens of people in the target population?). You'll be able to talk about how you address this need later.

For example, "We filter water by hand and use motorcycles to deliver it to rural areas."

In other words, tell us the story about how you introduced your product/service to the market, received feedback from your target population, and then adapted/iterated your product/service to better fit the needs of your target population.

We would love to see hard data in your response. For example, “thanks to our solution, 80% of our customers have increased their incomes by 50%.”
Unreasonable fun fact: Volleyball is an integral part of the curriculum at the Unreasonable Institute.
Unreasonable CEO Teju Ravilochan even runs a workshop called "Serve it up: the case for the ace."

In the meantime, we are asking you to consider participating in a broader Impact of Entrepreneurship Database program that is being coordinated by our partner, the Social Enterprise @ Goizueta program at Emory University with support from the ANDE Network, Argidius Foundation and Kauffman Foundation. The goal of this project is to establish a comprehensive database for much-needed study of the issues and challenges faced by entrepreneurs around the world. By analyzing the data that are captured by programs like ours, we will be in a much better position to support our entrepreneurs in the years ahead.

To participate in this program is check the box below, which gives us permission to include your information in this growing database.

Know that all of your application information will be kept completely confidential. The studies and reports that are made public as part of the database program will never divulge any information that will make it possible to identify you or your venture. Moreover, all of the data will be kept in a secure location; and only affiliated researchers will have access to them.

Although we are strong and committed supporters of this important database program, taking part is completely voluntary and will not affect your current or future relationship with Unreasonable Institute.

If you agree to submit your application data to our database program partners, your name will automatically be entered to win one of four (4) unrestricted $5,000 grants for your new venture.  The next draw will be held in June, 2014.

In roughly six months, our database partners plan to reach out to you again to ask for some brief follow-up information on your venture's performance and impacts. Please confirm the name and email address for the individual on your team who is best able to answer questions about your venture’s performance and impacts.
