Young Adult Application

This application is for Young Adults (18-23 year olds) applying to PG Retreat. Families for whom at least one offspring is under 18 years old should use our PG Retreat New Family Application. In both cases, a single application covers the family.

Applications are accepted year-round. Our Application Review Team meets monthly except for July and December. There is no application fee.

Profoundly Gifted Retreat (PGR) takes the privacy of applicants and members seriously. Our application is in a stand-alone system, separated from our membership directory. Application information you provide is stored for a limited time. Abandoned or submitted applications are deleted within four(4) months of the last edit or addition. After acceptance, the applicant’s name, contact information, and other family member’s surnames are exported to the membership directory, referrers' names may be stored separately, and other information provided is deleted. Members can update their profile at any time and have control over what information, if any, is visible to the general PGR membership.

Application

PGR is a community that offers online and in-person gatherings. In the sections that follow, please share information about yourself as a profoundly gifted child or Young Adult, and what you hope to gain by joining PG Retreat. As a community of families, unlike traditional professional associations or camps, we generally do not take the approach of "accepting" or "rejecting" applicants. Rather, we seek information to offer guidance on whether PG Retreat is a good fit for you and your family, and to better understand of how you would fit into the overall community.

Background

Please help us to get to know you and your family. Tell us a little about characteristics, hobbies, and intellectual interests, especially those that reflect how being profoundly gifted shapes who and how you are.

Did you reach any developmental milestones early? If so, please tell us a couple of short anecdotes describing an early milestone that may have surprised your parents or people you know.

List your participation in any gifted organizations, summer enrichment programs, extracurricular activities, and other relevant memberships.

For scores not indicative of PG levels, please describe any relevant extenuating factors such as ceilings, large spreads, or twice-exceptional issues.

Please describe any challenges you faced as a result of being profoundly gifted, including socially, emotionally, academically, etc. Discuss any challenges you have had as a profoundly gifted child or young adult.

Describe your current work or educational environment, along with any significant changes in environment. Identify the setting(s), such as public, private, parochial, homeschool, or community college. Describe any specialized gifted programs in which you participate or have participated and discuss any grade acceleration undertaken.

References

References can be very helpful for your application, especially in the absence of test scores, although they are not required. Did a professional in gifted services refer you to PG Retreat? Do you have a recommendation from a teacher or other professional who knows your gifted qualities? Do you have any family members or friends who are PGR members? Please provide names and contact information for each reference. Indicate your permission for references to be contacted, if necessary.
