SYO Absence Form

Attendance at SYO rehearsals, tutorials and performances is a vital part of your SYO membership. Musicians are expected to arrange their schedules so that they can attend all orchestra activities as per the SYO Participant Code of Conduct.

If you are unable to attend a rehearsal, tutorial or concert, you must seek permission at least two weeks before the date by completing a form for each day you will be absent. This includes late arrivals and early departures.

The SYO Musicians and Training team will receive your form and contact you if there are any issues with your request. If you do not hear from SYO, please consider your absence accepted and noted.

Musicians who are absent for more than 2 rehearsals leading up to a performance, or who are frequently late or absent without notice may be asked not to perform at the discretion of their conductor.

If you are unwell, we encourage you to stay home from rehearsals/activities for your own wellbeing, and for the safety of your fellow musicians, conductors, tutors and SYO staff.

For any absences on the day of the rehearsal or concert, please text your orchestra mobile instead of completing this form.

This is the username you use to log into your SYOnline classroom - please make sure this is correct or your absence may not be registered.
It can be found at the top of all SYO emails and your Musician ID Card

Please fill in one request per rehearsal/class.

To submit an absence for an Orchestral Musicianship class, please use the Orchestral Musicianship Absence Form.

Please make sure you have selected the correct date before submitting your form. For any absences on the day of the rehearsal or concert, please text your orchestra mobile instead of completing this form.

Please be as detailed as possible! If arriving late or departing early please clearly state your estimated arrival or departure time e.g. Arriving at 2:30pm due to school athletics carnival.
Click on submit to proceed. If you wish to insert another request, do not click on return on your browser. Please refresh the form or click on the link on the confirmation page.

If you are a woodwind, brass or percussion player and you cannot attend rehearsal, it is your responsibility to find another musician who is able to cover your part. If you are unable to find a suitable deputy, SYO staff are happy to assist you. After you fill out this form:

1. Email info@syo.com.au to let us know that you can't attend and you are looking for a replacement player to fill in on your part/with the name and contact details of your replacement player so that we can ensure they receive any important rehearsal updates. If you can't find a replacement player we are able to help.

2. Let the rest of your section know you won't be able to make it! (This is important even if you've been unable to make it last minute due to illness. This means you section knows to prepare to cover your part if needed. They may also be able to help you find a deputy.)

3. If you know in advance that you are going to be away, you should also discuss this with your conductor ahead of time at rehearsals.
